Safer Settings for All Ages
We tailor our chat settings and content access to allow users to connect and create in age-appropriate settings. Chat is only available to users who have completed an age check. Our default settings are designed to help keep users safe, but we acknowledge that no system is perfect. We encourage all parents to have conversations with their children about interacting safely online. You can use our parent resources to help inform these conversations.

Types of Chats (Definitions)
Experience chat
This is our messaging system for all users who want to communicate while playing games. The messages appear in a live, scrolling feed in the game. All age-checked users in the game can see the chats as long as they are in the similar age groups or if they’re trusted friends and have chat enabled. Filters designed to block most inappropriate content, personally identifiable information, links, and images are in place. All chat is monitored for child exploitation.
Direct experience chat
This is our messaging system for players who want to communicate one-on-one with each other while playing games. Users do not have to be friends on Roblox to chat one-on-one in the game if they are in a similar age group. The messages appear in a live, scrolling feed. Filters designed to block most inappropriate content, personally identifiable information, links, and images are in place. All chat is monitored for critical harm.
Party chat
This is our messaging system that allows friends to message each other in and outside of games. These chats are ongoing, so users can pick up where they left off during their last Roblox session. Party Chat is not available for users under 9 and is available only with trusted friends for users ages 9-12 by default. Teens (13+) can chat more freely in Party Chat but only with friends in similar age groups and trusted friends. All conversations are monitored for critical harm.
Roblox content maturity labels
Our maturity labels are grounded in child development research and informed by industry standards. Parents can use their Parental controls to restrict their child’s access to content based maturity labels and what makes sense for their family.
Roblox recently announced Roblox Kids and Roblox Select, new accounts specifically tailored for kids and users younger than 16. Learn more here.
